8 Game Franchises That Deserve To Be Rebooted

2. Alpha Protocol

I've been playing Alpha Protocol recently, and it's not nearly as bad as I was lead to believe. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's pretty good, however, I can see why people may say otherwise. The problem is that it's a great game badly made: the graphics and sound are pretty poor, the gameplay itself is buggy and there's a whole list of other issues - but the story and the concept are both very good. I find myself actually caring about the decisions I make, and I like the fact that seemingly small things, like being spotted or not in a mission, can have big consequences. Interacting with characters is genuinely enjoyable, even if the characters themselves are rather 2 dimensional, and the story is great. I think Alpha Protocol is sort of a missed opportunity to make a seriously good RPG, and consequently I'd love to see this rebooted, which of course, won't happen. If it did though, I'd like to see big writers employed to help with the characters and the dialogue, and I'd like to see some bigger set pieces. But most of all, I'd like an overhaul of the gameplay systems: the sneaking, the shooting, the works. One thing I do like about it, is that there's no real warning about what you should expect, for example, I'm a stealth guy, so have been levelling this up. When I start a mission that's a storm of a terrorist base or something, I know I'm in trouble because I can't fight for the life of me, which prompts smart thinking about how you level up your character. I've seen this aspect of the game complained about, but I think the makers should stick to their guns on this one, because it makes levelling up a proper extension of the gameplay rather than something to make you better. It also solidifies the game as a RPG and not a shooter with RPG elements. Alpha Protocol was definitely a great idea badly executed, and I'd love to see Obsidian given a second chance.
