3. Shenmue III
No matter what the developers keep insisting, I don't believe that Shenmue III is ever coming out. Well, maybe it will... but not until the tail-end of 2025.
Jokes aside, the buzz around the cult-favourite franchise has nosedived since the third title was unveiled back in 2015. The publisher recently reaffirmed that the next twelve months will be monumental for the kickstarted game, but actions speak louder than words, and so far nothing has been released to indicate that Shenmue III is anywhere near close to being finished.
Although other games on this list, like Red Dead Redemption 2, don't need a long-winded marketing push to still sell millions of copies, this sequel doesn't have the same luxury. Shenmue is as niche as it gets, and if the developers are hoping to expand beyond their core fanbase, they're going to need to come out swinging and persuade players to pick the game up - something which they've been reluctant to do.
The devs might surprise everyone and hit their intended 2018 date, but unless they have a big unveiling soon, I wouldn't bank on it.
