As much as they like to argue against the fact, modern gamers are rather spoilt. The games they get to play benefit from decades of technical innovation, all polished and refined to an obsessive degree. There's nothing wrong with this €“ it's how progress is supposed to work. And it means that as a result there are many godawful aspects of gaming history they (mostly) get to avoid entirely €“ particularly, terrible voice acting. It used to be that voice acting in games consisted of a bloke who knew someone in accounting would go to a developer's house and record his lines in a poky shed. And because it saved people from having to spend a few more hours reading, this was considered a good thing. As technology perpetually evolves, so does the standard, and so Chris' mate's mate earning a few quid in the studio becomes no longer acceptable. Which is perfectly fine when considering entries on this list. As this is commonly covered topic I've tried to avoid too many obvious picks, and chosen only voice acting that is genuinely awful and not of the so bad it's good category.
