8 Insane Video Game Events Hardly ANYONE Saw
You had to be there.
Say the word "Fortnite" and you might be awash in flashes of streamer culture and children screaming at each other for "One more match!" before bedtime. However, something Epic Games' runaway freight train of success helped pioneer to a mass audience, is live events.
Different from seasonal offerings or limited time selections of in-game cosmetics, a new-age live event is literally some story-related or otherwise important event happening once, in front of whoever's logged in at the time to see it.
Fortnite have taken this concept and ran with it. There's been everything from ginormous kaiju battles to rockets taking off, supernatural beings bursting across the sky while you play to even reality itself being sucked into a black hole to close out the 10th season.
While Fortnite definitely skews towards a much younger audience than the average gamer, the idea of large-scale live events is damn cool, especially when done well.
At the close of the eighth generation, as the PS5 and Xbox Series X emerge into view, live events have to be capitalised on more going forward. There are simply too many ways to do enjoy synchronised events across player bases, and these titles prove it.
