8 Most ANTI-CLIMACTIC Video Game Deaths

These deaths left us all feeling deflated.

Just as it's a part of life, so too is death a major fixture in most video games - save for those ultra-cozy ones, of course.

Death is also a facet of most video game genres, and especially the blockbuster titles which sell gangbusters units each year. And so, it's fair to say that players are probably a little desensitised to the very concept.

As a result, developers need to really go the extra mile to make them feel a character's digital demise, to have them anguish over a beloved hero's death, or perhaps even cheer enthusiastically for a despicable villain to finally get theirs.

But sometimes developers go in the entirely opposite direction, serving up notable character deaths that are a total anti-climax.

Whether intentionally or not, these deaths left us all gobsmacked by their suddenness, their lack of ceremony, and how quickly the game just... moved on from them.

Naturally each of these deaths proved divisive with fans in their own way - in some instances this was clearly the desired reaction from those who made the game, while in others it was perhaps a creative miscalculation...

8. Johnny Klebitz - Grand Theft Auto V

Though we shouldn't ever take the survival of any Grand Theft Auto character for granted, by the end of GTA IV's expansion The Lost and Damned, it seemed like fan favourite biker Johnny Klebitz was in a pretty good place.

But that was categorically undone when Johnny made a cameo in GTA V, where his life is a mess once more and he angrily confronts new protagonist Trevor about having sex with his girlfriend Ashley.

Trevor responds by mocking Johnny and basically turning the situation around on him, even getting him to apologise for his rage.

But it's all a trick - Trevor then throws Johnny to the ground, smashes a bottle over his face, and stomps his head repeatedly until he dies.

It's a death that left many fans irate, that such an entertaining and likeable character was rubbed out in a matter of minutes - in the middle of a cutscene no less - like the punchline to a bad joke.

Johnny was basically sacrificed to underline how dangerous and unhinged Trevor is, but given his standing with the fanbase, he deserved something a little less unceremonious.
