8 Reasons To Be Excited About The Nintendo Switch 2

8. Nintendo in 4K

They’ve only gone and done it. Nintendo have entered the 4K space. They said “HDR” on a Nintendo Direct more than once and there was a promise for 120fps. Is this real life?!

Those who are less ingrained in the Nintendo space may be kind of numb to these kinds of numbers and figures but Nintendo’s cute and simple explanation of what these specs mean should be an indication that it’s not necessarily for the dyed-in-the-wool hardcore gamer. It will make a massive difference to those who use the Switch as the primary playing device to leap from 720p to 1080p and beyond.

Additionally, Nintendo continue to have a great eye for visual flair. Mario and Zelda being in HD for the first time were a monumental experience, despite coming half a decade late to the party, so the same may be said about 4K and so on.

(And we can finally hopefully stop seeing those terrible “what if Mario was 4K in Unreal engine” videos now… we can only pray.)

There were lots of rumoured specs about the Switch 2 so to see it finally confirmed was pretty incredible. Seeing the difference between Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Z-A running on Switch 1 last week compared to Switch 2 was significant. The idea that we could have a Metroid game running at 120fps in handheld seems quite remarkable.

How well the game handles established powerhouses like Elden Ring remains to exactly be seen, but the line-up of non-Nintendo games was quite staggering and may well be telling that this console can live up to it’s potential.
