It's been a pretty rocky road for Halo Infinite over this last year or so, with an absolutely disastrous gameplay reveal in 2020 that was widely mocked online.
Shortly after, the title was delayed out of its expected Xbox Series X launch slot, and just to pour even more salt on the wound, director Chris Lee exited the project last October - an ominous sign for a game that was in desperate need of some TLC.
On the plus side, the game is now in a much healthier spot, and seems to be on track for a late 2021 launch. The recent multiplayer technical test was well-received by fans, but because this game can't help but attract bad press for itself, even that was mired in controversy, all thanks to a handful of files that 343 Industries accidentally left in the preview build.
Bizarrely, these files have nothing to do with the game's multiplayer - they're actually related to its singleplayer campaign.
According to project lead Joseph Staten, a "small number" of these files were mistakenly left in the multiplayer test, and, annoyingly for fans, they reportedly contain some pretty big spoilers.
As a result, some in-depth details about the game's story are now floating around online - so Halo fans had best be on their toes for the next several months.
