8 Video Games You Didn't Know Had KILLER Hidden Features
8. Shenmue II - Duck Racing
We begin with something so utterly farcical that I'm still struggling to accept that this exists, especially seeing as it comes from a title so meticulously focused on delivering realistic details that even the weather in Shenmue is mapped accordingly to the year this game is set in.
I'm speaking of course about the ludicrous and surprisingly hard to unlock Duck Racing mode in Shenmue II, which, as the name suggests allows you to drop a bill or two on a duck and watch it zoom around a track. The jury is out on whether one of the competitors should even be allowed to race seeing as it's a penguin, but this is easily the most fun way to begin a crippling gambling addiction, even if the method to unlock it is an absolute chore.
First, you need two medals, a Bronze and a Silver one. The former is pretty easy to get but the Silver medal can only be unlocked by completing two incredibly challenging secret fights. This unlocks the ability to go and bet on Duck Races. However, let's just say that you've got a taste for duck and fancy owning your own, well my friend, once you've won a Duck Race and earned the Gold Medal, return to the shrine and catch four falling leaves, which trust me is insanely difficult. If you can do this, you'll hear a "quack" and a bloody duck will fall from the tree prompting you to catch it.
If you can manhandle this mallard you'll now have your very own duck! Huzzah? It's a weird moment for sure, but at least you can give the animal a funny name. I called mine Dick Van Duck.
