The Peng treasure is a hidden item that can be found in all three Dead Space games, yet has no purpose, backstory, or relevance to what is otherwise a very serious and scary plot (well, in the first two at least). Having to find this item thats irrelevant to everything going on really knackers the sense of immersion, unless a terrified half-mad engineer really would take a break from killing monsters and running for his life to find an anonymous object that can help him in no way. Its an unnecessary addition, pointlessly souring the games atmosphere and leaving players feeling like theyve just been made to swallow a dog turd before being allowed to carry on eating their lovely cake. In fairness it does kind of work in the third game, as that entire game is a pile of steaming canine poo, but in the first two instalments it only numbs the fear and tension Visceral had been working so hard to build up during the few hours prior.
