It's commonly said of movies, TV and video games that the journey is more important than the destination - meaning that a piece of media's quality comprises the sum of its parts rather than simply how it leaves you feeling at the end.

Yes, it's undeniably disappointing when a game fumbles the ball at the eleventh hour - Mass Effect 3's infamously terrible ending surely being the most shining contemporary example - but it also shouldn't drastically colour everything that happened up to that point.

Is it not a teensy bit melodramatic to say that an unsatisfying final 20 minutes totally obliterates 30-40 hours of play? A bad ending can definitely diminish the overall experience, but can it really ruin all that prior enjoyment?
