9 Video Games With Reviews No One Can Agree Upon

9. Grand Theft Auto IV

Rockstar took a plunge into the unknown when they released GTA IV. The GTA franchise is known for its comedic commentary on dark subjects like crime and corruption and one could even go so far as to say that despite all of the games being filled with violence, GTA is a silly franchise. However, that excludes GTA IV.

Instead of the usual satirical approach, Rockstar went a different direction when they introduced protagonist Niko Bellic. Niko's story is of a man who attempts to chase the American dream, but despite him wanting to leave his criminal past behind, he seems unable to shake it. It's a tale of redemption and it gave Niko depth. Instead of the caricatures of old GTA, we were introduced to a realistic character. The game was a success and Niko's gloomy story and the bleak backdrop of Liberty City seemed to be what fans wanted.

However, that's not entirely true as many fans thought that the serious approach was unnecessary and poorly done. Many referenced the fact that despite Niko wanting to change, he doesn't grow as a character. He's perfectly fine murdering people post emotional cutscene and that fact didn't sit right with many.
