9 Videogame Characters Who Were Punished Far Too Severely

7. The Darkness €“ Paulie Blows Up Orphans For Being In An Orphanage

As befitting a game called €˜The Darkness,€™ this wasn€™t exactly a cheery game. It€™s infamous for creating one of the most convincing relationships and emotionally intimate moments in gaming €“ when protagonist Jackie and his girlfriend Jenny watch TV just because €“ before snatching it away from you by having Paulie Franchetti slit her throat in front of you. Yet everyone seems to forget that the game committed its own undeserved fate moments before this trauma. That moment came when Paulie blew up Jackie€™s goddamned orphanage for no other reason than spite. Of course, as corresponding to Paulie€™s status as a villain, the orphans are all still inside, and suffer a brutal incineration entirely because they just so happened to dwell in the same building as a man who annoyed the mob. Seems unfair, really. I know Paulie didn€™t really like Jackie, but there had to be a better way to make that apparent than blowing up a load of innocent children. Maybe he could€™ve just sent him a strongly-worded letter, or something.
