9 Videogame Characters Who Were Punished Far Too Severely

5. Bioshock €“ Jack Will Die For Smashing Windows

Glass breaks all the time €“ you can blast a football through it, objects can fall into it and if you€™re really unlucky (or living in a martial arts movie) you can go tumbling through it yourself. Either way up, accidents happen, and a situation involving broken glass can usually be resolved with an apology and a monetary sum. Yet in Rapture things don€™t quite work like that, apparently because Andrew Ryan just could not be bothered to hire any security or police force. I get that it might not be the most objectivist thing in the world, but there€™s such a thing as private security and sheriffs (no, not the cowboy kind), the people who give you a clip round the head for smashing a lovely shop window and then chase you for the bill, and if that's not ultra-capitalist, I don;t know what is. But instead of creating this arm to stave off unemployment (which, let€™s remember, Fontaine was able to use as a tool to beat Fontaine round the head with) he decides to subcontract the issue to robots, who will come and gun you down if you accidentally swing your wrench too near an Arcadia shop front. It€™s just so wildly ridiculous that it stands out even among the murder and mayhem of Bioshock. I€™ve never seen anti-vandalism enforced with such reckless retribution. Think about that next time you break something €“ at least you won€™t have flying machine-guns coming after you.
