Early on, you'll end up catching a menagerie of undiscovered fish and bugs, all blubbing or fluttering at the prospect of being exhibited in Blathers' museum. It'll take a few days for the gallery to open however, leaving you with a lot of sticky and smelly species in your pockets.

This isn't immediately clear to new players, wary of years of vanishing inventory, but it's perfectly safe to chuck all your soon-to-be rehomed critters on the ground outside. They'll adorably splodge into their own miniature tanks/vivariums, completely proofed against any islander's appetite.

When Blathers finally sets up shop, you can restore all the lads to your possession, and hand them over. He won't know what to do with himself.
