Since ditching the present day aspect essentially altogether, the series has fell into this weird limbo where the team are trying to get straight to the meat of the experience - that being stabbing the bejesus out of all and sundry - whilst retaining a relatable narrative, indicative of the earlier titles where Desmond/Altair/Ezio was finding their feet. That's culminated multiple times over the last two main entries in a weird way, with Black Flag's Edward just straight-up moving and animating like an assassin despite being a plunder-happy pirate, and Unity's Arno learning entire assault courses' worth of techniques just from sharing the same floor-space as an established member of the order. For Syndicate, it's been shown that both Jacob and Evie are assassins, but perhaps we're going to delve into their mid-twenties, with all the formative stuff handled in flashbacks? To be honest at this point the game would feel way less jarring if Ubi simply said "You're a master assassin, go!" as that's all any fans of the series at this point want to be.
