Avengers Beta Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

The poison of corporate influence strikes again.

For the longest time we've wanted a big budget Avengers game.

Kids of the 2000s got Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, titles that were suitably flashy for their time where any combo of various Avenger rosters would give you a team stat-boost. Since then though - and bafflingly across the entire peak of the MCU's run across Hollywood - Marvel have barely graced consoles, especially in the current generation.

Save for Insomniac's Spider-Man and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on Switch, it fell to Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' big-budget take on The Avengers to make up for lost time.

Sadly, whilst this isn't Anthem-levels of phoned in tedium (people actually wanted to work on this from front to back), the beta highlights some staggering negatives that will no doubt get in the way for the majority of players.

There are worthwhile positives - and props to Crystal Dynamics for even tackling such a high-pressure project and coming out the other side - but sadly, the negatives are plain to see.
