BioShock Movie Back In Trouble: Director Quits Project
It seems that the movie adaptation formerly led by Gore Verbinski is back in developmental hell...
"To be honest, by now, I'm completely out of that, and developing other stuff, Right now it's on hold. The studio and the video game company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating."The BioShock movie has had a tumultuous run as a movie based on the game was announced way back in 2008. There have been major financial issues over the movie; the studio wanted the movie trimmed down from the 160 million dollar budget. In addition, no studio has been willing to let producer Gore Verbinksi create an R-rated version of BioShock so the movie has been stuck in development hell. Although Ken Levine doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to get the movie made:
"For us there's no burning to have a movie made just to get it made, For us and for Take-Two, it's really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don't know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game. "There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats. But you know, we don't have a need to get it made."I can't say I am too disappointed with this news, as we all know the Hollywood doesn't have the best track record with video game adaptations. If this movie was ever going to get made it would need to be this year, with one of the most anticipated games of the year being BioShock Infinite set to release later this year the hype surrounding the BioShock series has never been higher. Is anyone disappointed this movie is not going to get made any time in the foreseeable future?
