There is a clear and definable standard for what constitutes, beyond just a boss fight, a Souls boss fight, one set by the likes of Tower Knight, Gaping Dragon and Manus, Father of the Abyss. It's not simply a matter of how hard they hit or how big their health bar, but a quality stemming from an imposing presence capable of instilling a true sense of disbelief. It's adapting your play style to meet this bossto dodge its tail, assail its massive paws, stay wary of its devastating wide-range attack and so on. And quite frankly, the many iterations of "A Dude In Armor" seen in Dark Souls 2 just aren't up to snuff. Bloodborne is built upon a premise of disease and mutation, one which has already borne countless and increasingly hideous abominations. Where in there does your run-of-the-mill swordsman qualify as a proper boss challenge? That's beneath you, Bloodborne; break out the half-spider people, the scaleless dragons and the undead armies. Go bigger, and if at all possible, as eldritch as you can.
