CM Punk has been confirmed for WWE 2K15 and will be a major part of the game. Reports indicate that WWE 2K15's theme mode will be built around 2K Showcase. This will entail two top rivalries in WWE history, which the gamer will progress through over 33 matches. The rivalries in question will be Triple H vs Shawn Michaels from 2002 to 2004 and CM Punk vs John Cena from 2011 to 2013. The presentation of these rivalries will incorporate video documentary segments. These will be produced by WWE and include live-action interviews as well as actual footage. 2K emphasise the fact that they want the rivalries to play out just like they did on television. It will certainly be a cool touch to see the gameplay cut with the actual context. Through playing the mode, gamers will also unlock wrestlers, gameplay modes and alternative outfits. 2K also stated that more Showcase rivalries will be added in the future via DLC. The addition of CM Punk is obviously the blockbuster news here. He walked out of WWE back in January, presumably before 2K started work on this theme mode. However, he was under WWE contract up until July, so you can understand how 2K perhaps got around incorporating him. From WWE's point of view, they've blacklisted CM Punk from the company. It will be interesting to see how they promote this theme mode on WWE television. What's also going to be interesting is the in-game documentaries they're producing for Showcase mode. Will they attempt to bury Punk? What kind of insights will the interviews offer on Punk's legacy? He remains a touchy subject in WWE, this will be the first time since his exit that we hear superstars actually talking about him.
