Of all the early-generation games that were bitterly disappointing, Destiny stung the most. We knew Bungie were better than the featureless, repetitive bilge that represented that first game, and though over the course of a few years they'd release the brilliant Taken King and Rise of Iron DLC (adding characters, cutscenes and scores of fancy-looking loot), Destiny as a brand was destined to divide players forevermore.

Going into the sequel - which even when it was announced, was met with a "Wait... already?" reaction - we've got one of the most streamlined loot-shooters in gaming history. An experience that prioritises and perfects the sensation of blasting countless alien hordes with countless alien weapons, hoovering up all manner of items from weapons to armour, fancy ships, shaders and class abilities, Destiny 2 eclipses the original in every way - but it isn't perfect.

Still, let's stick to the positives, because there is a lot to like - especially considering that with Bungie at the helm, Destiny 2 is easily one of the best-playing first-person shooters on the planet.
