All this traversal, map-reading and exploration... but no Sparrow. What gives?

Well, Sparrows are still in the game, but they're resigned to only being accessible once you beat the main story. Sans spoilers, just talk to a certain main character after that climactic mission in the social hub and you'll get given a free one.

Before then, know that if you kick up enough of a fuss when fighting the Fallen, a fleet of them will turn up on 'Pikes'; essentially Destiny's version of Halo 3's Choppers, albeit with tighter lateral movement.

Though nabbing a Pike for yourself isn't saved in a particular position when you dive into a cave or journey too far on foot, they're still incredibly helpful when it comes to seeing everything these worlds have to offer.
