7. Actual Memorable Characters
Though the likes of Cayde-6 truly came into their own in the Taken King add-on, Destiny 2 literally opens with a huge focus on characters. The fans have gravitated towards the three Vanguards; Zavala, Ikora Rey and Cayde-6, but never before - in the base version of Destiny - were they placed so front and centre.
In the opening story mission we get some great in-game set-pieces for each hero: Cayde-6 triggers his Solar Light special to kill three Cabal in one swift motion, Zavala provides a shield for you to retreat and leap inside when defending against waves of foes, and Ikora Rey wipes out a platoon of enemies before diving onto a ship, roaring in defiance as she takes it down.
All three beats stick with you, and immediately it grounds the story and its characters in a way the first Destiny completely leapfrogged.
