If theres anything we could say about the last generation, it was the generation of games getting way too serious. Everything seemed to become some form of gray and brown, with characters who never asked to be in whatever situation they were in, and the world was constantly ending. Even developers known for fun and pretty silly titles, like Insomniac, got sucked into the grim, super-serious vortex. So when Sunset Overdrives development team arrived at Microsofts press conference in bizarre outfits and a bizarrely decorated bus, it set the expectation that Sunset Overdrive would stand out among the rest of the games. And when the trailer started off by mocking the last generations ubiquitous cover based military shooters, it certainly was the highlight of the press conference up to that moment. After so many years of darkness, Sunset Overdrive showed that bright, colorful absurdity has a place in every gamers life.
