As fantastic as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate looked - but more on that in a moment - it was pretty disappointing that Nintendo devoted a whole 25 minutes of their barely 40-minute Direct to the game.

Clearly this was emblematic of Nintendo not having a lot to show off, but even so, taking such a deep dive into Smash far beyond what most fans required felt excessive, and some of it clearly could've been saved for the Treehouse livestream.

The charm began to wear off by the end, especially when the demonstration started going into the minutia of the game's intricate improvements over its predecessor, at which point it started to just sound like narrated patch notes.

That's to take nothing away from how great the new Smash looks, but sometimes less is more, right?
