E3 2018: Ubisoft Show New Beyond Good And Evil 2 Trailer, Features Jade
Oh blimey, is it real yet?
Ubisoft showed off a new trailer for Beyond Good And Evil 2 during their E3 2018 presentation, and boy was it a corker. We still don't know a release date for the long, long awaited sequel to Michel Ancel's 2003 cult hit, but the four minute cinematic teaser revealed a little more about the game's storyline and characters - including a few familiar faces.
Upon seeing the last Beyond Good And Evil 2 trailer, fans of the original were somewhat despondent that the follow-up didn't seem to bear much relation to its predecessor. The spectacular new clip puts those fears to bed. After a placid opening which shows a space cruiser drifting through an icy dust belt, focus switches to the craft's sick bay, where an attending acupuncturist blames the cook for bringing down the whole crew with his "miraculous space chili". The noxious chef turns out to be none other than Pey'j, your porcine pal from Beyond Good and Evil.
While all this is going on, we see the pilot and her simian sidekick from the previous trailer whizzing around the vessel, before both vehicles are caught in a huge wave of ice - the cause of a third, enormous vessel approaching. The trailer ends as the ship is boarded by a group of interlopers. Recognition dawns on the face of Pey'j. "Jade?" he asks. He's not wrong.
After the video, Ubisoft revealed some fresh details about the game. Players will control their own custom space pirate, tasked with navigating from planet to planet doing general piratey things. They also noted that it is a prequel to the first game, though quite how Jade fits into all this - and why she appears to be an antagonist - is as yet unclear.
Ubisoft plans to keep eager players interested with their 'Space Monkey Program', providing regular updates and, rather boldly, giving fans the chance to upload content to be included in the game. They won't regret opening those floodgates.
Check back for more details as they emerge.
