During Square Enix's show, they confirmed that Final Fantasy 8 is finally getting the remaster treatment, and will be heading to PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One later in the year.

Fans were miffed last year when Square confirmed remasters of Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 10, yet curiously left out 8, amid whispers that the game's source code had been lost to time.

But Final Fantasy 8 Remastered will indeed be landing this year, the year of the game's 20th anniversary, offering up sharpened visuals and quality-of-life settings such as the ability to turn random battles off and speed up gameplay outside of cutscenes.

FF8 is unquestionably one of the most divisive entries into the franchise, largely thanks to its barmy story (even for the standards of the series) and bizarre characters.

But regardless, it's a damn relief to see it finally updated alongside its franchise brothers.
