16. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Although fans went wild when Sony announced a remake to the most popular Final Fantasy game of all time back at E3 2015, anticipation for the title has since plummeted thanks to the changes that Square Enix have planned to make to Final Fantasy VII.

Instead of opting for a standard release, the developers are instead splitting the game up into episodic chunks that will drop at regular intervals, carving up the experience into small, bitesize sequences rather focusing on releasing everything at once.

Likewise, the core combat system has been completely overhauled, stripping out the turn-based system of the original for Final Fantasy XV's live action gameplay.

Square could have made mad bank if they just remade the original title exactly how it was with modern graphics, but by tinkering with a beloved game they've ruined whatever excitement players once had.
