"Wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up, and smell the ashes," whispers the G-Man into Gordon's ear, causing him to awaken on the floor in front of the cryo-pod that he was encased in for 200 years. The whole premise fits, right? Freeman's highly experienced in the ways of being thrown into the centre cataclysmic scenarios too. He's survived rifts from alternative alien dimensions and oppressive dystopian cities, so why shouldn't he be able to handle a little nuclear apocalypse? To stay in character, you'll obviously have to quickly press a button each time Freeman opens his mouth to skip over any of his dialogue, and just pretend that other characters can read his lips, or mind, or however it is that they communicate with him in the Half-life games.
