FIFA 14: 5 Most Annoying Things That Almost Ruin It

3. Lack Of Ball Control

This seems to be one of the more glitchier parts of the gameplay in Fifa 14, and a problem that is difficult to take. It's quite obvious that this season, EA wanted to make tackling more of a focal point, which is where this problem comes in. In Fifa 13 and earlier titles, the ball was quite hard to take away from players, but now, dribbling and first touches seem to be very fragile aspects of the game, therefore dispossession happens very frequently. There is a grey area in this section of the gameplay, which is what is confusing about it. Sometimes it's clear the player's ball control is affected by his momentum or his stats, as it should be, however, there are many other times when ball control seems extremely unpredictable and makes no sense considering events prior to it, forcing the player to call them out as 'glitches', as well as other more colourful descriptive words. But then, is that what EA wanted to achieve? Not glitchy gameplay, but a game that wasn't as repetitive and predictable as its predecessors'? I appreciate that Fifa 14 hits this target and it is one of the most addictive things about the game, but the player's lack of ball control at all levels is unfortunately one of the factors that contributes to it's unpredictability, and obviously not in a good way. Obviously in real-life football, even the best players make silly mistakes on the pitch, but surely mistakes should be up to the human with the controller, and not AI that the player cannot control, costing him results and frying his or her brain?
