Why Fans Would Love It

One of the biggest changes in modern football has been the rise of punditry. The game might kick off at 5.00pm, but coverage starts hours in advance, with a studio of former players and managers discussing every little detail about the upcoming match.

FIFA have tried to address this, with some games being introduced by Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling, and updates being provided during career games about other ongoing matches in the league, but incorporating punditry into the game would allow FIFA to truly replicate the match day experience.

They could do this in a number of ways; a cut-scene involving real-life pundits discussing the upcoming match could be played before the game, or the half-time menus could take place in a studio instead of an empty pitch.

A simple option would be to hear pundits discuss how your team is performing as you navigate the menus after a game, instead of hearing the same songs from the game’s soundtrack over and over again.

Why It Will Never Happen

Having real life pundits in the game would be another expense for EA, as it would cost a lot of money to hire the really popular ones, and recording their lines would take up a lot of time, especially if you wanted variety, as this type of feature would get annoying fast if you had to listen to the same discussion about every game.

The developers would have to work hard to get this feature exactly right; making it something that they would just not bother with at all.
