It was one thing for Sony to announce the remake of Final Fantasy VII back at 2015's E3, but the notion that Square Enix would have "more to show in November" i.e. gameplay - that was the best part. Obviously they missed that initial window, but it was in service of kicking things off royally at the PlayStation Experience; Sony's annual exclusivity-fest, where everything from this to Uncharted 4 and a stack of indies got shown off in abundance. We can see that alongside Square staying true to 'modernising' the experience with real-time battles à la more modern Final Fantasies and Kingdom Hearts, they've spruced up the graphics considerably and for the first time ever; gone back and fully voiced the entire cast. Since this announcement, Square have come out and said they'll be releasing FF VII in multiple instalments, but the jury's out on whether that means smaller, episodic chunks, or multiple fully-priced games that arrive in however many sequels are necessary to get the job done. Until then, there's plenty to pick apart - especially seeing as some of the most interesting details were buried in the footage that's already available.
