FINISH HIM! There's A New Time Travelling Mortal Kombat Movie Coming

Round Three... FIGHT!

It doesn't just rain video game movie news, it absolutely pours. Hot on the heels of news that Legendary have decided to try and take advantage of Pokemon Go's astonishing success, Christopher Lambert has confirmed that he is set to return for a third Mortal Kombat movie.

The original 1995 adaptation was one of the better video game movies ever made - which is about as faint praise as you're ever likely to hear - with something of a cult appreciation springing up around it. It also didn't bomb at the box office, surprisingly.

Lambert has revealed to Loaded that he was offered the chance to return for underwhelming sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation but passed because he "didn't think the script was very good." That's pretty damning when you consider some of the scripts he actually said yes to.

The third film will be "very different" according to Lambert, who has obviously seen enough in their "great idea" to change his mind on leaving the franchise. That apparently includes time travel, because that's still the sequel idea de rigeur:

“We are going to be travelling through time but in a very special way. So imagine characters having a battle in the middle of London and then whoosh, you smash through a window and find yourself on the hood of a New York cab”.

That... that's not time travel, but whatever. Sounds suitably bonkers, and mental instability is probably Mortal Kombat's best friend right now.
