The term realism applied to the global footballing transfer market can be seen as something of an oxymoron. Real-life footballers' moves between clubs are often completely confounding, with seemingly little rhyme or reason as to why certain players increasingly command such an astronomically high price.

However, even with the often-confounding nature of the transfer market considered, Football Manager still regularly fails to provide a realistic transfer experience between clubs controller by the AI. Often players will be signed for huge sums despite having barely any experience, and then just left to rot in a team's reserves. FM21 will hopefully remedy this while maintaining the realism that fans love the series for.
