Remember the ending of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes? The big climactic destruction of Big Boss's motherbase? Well, if you did, did you ever pause to think that maybe, just maybe, an awesome game lied in waiting focusing on the experiences of one of your random ally mercenaries?

No? Ah, that's a shame, because Konami sure did. For some reason or another.

Revealed by IGN on Gamescom's first morning, the aptly titled Metal Gear: Survive (because let's face it, no one knows how this series will keep going with Kojima's absence) seems to be taking the horde modes of old and applying a Metal Gear makeover to them. Of course it has.

The trailer's currently sitting on a tasty 25k dislikes at the mo', as it appears fans aren't taking to the latest instalment with great haste. If anything, taking what was once a stealth-action title and turning it into your average everyday action shooter has the danger of alienating the series' core audience.

Only time will tell if Konami's attempts to keep Metal Gear going will pay off, but if this trailer's anything to go by, this one's shaping up to be a big pile of 'meh'.
