Gamestop, the biggest US video game retailer is looking to buy UK retailer GAME, according to reports at MCV. This rumour comes on the back of news earlier today that GAME will not be stocking one of the biggest console releases of the year Mass Effect 3 amidst claims of financial uncertainty at the company. However Gamestop's apparent interest in GAME could hit a snag. The problem comes from the fact GameStop doesn't want to buy the GAME franchises in Australia, only the ones that reside in Europe: its widely known GameStop is looking at Europe, specifically UK and Spanish regions where GAME is market leader." GameStop already owns EB Games in Australia and doesn't want to double dip by then owning GAME as well. GameStop in contrast to GAME has been doing extremely well over the Christmas holidays "trading of over $3bn for the nine weeks ending December 31st". Although the question people have had with GameStop is, how much longer can it last considering it makes so much of it's profits on used game sales. Once everything goes digital GameStop will have major concerns, not to mention the rumors that the next generation Xbox will include technology that will prohibit used games to be played in the system. But for right now GameStop may be the only thing that can save GAME from going under at the rate things are going. However, as of right now this is just a rumor from MCV and nothing has been confirmed yet.
