10 Greatest Second-Bananas In Gaming

6. Navi - The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

Let€™s just get it out of the way right now. Yes, Navi is annoying. Despite best being known for her incessant repetition of the words €œhey€, €œlook€, and €œlisten€, Navi was important in ways gamers still don€™t appreciate to this very day. The chatty fairy is Link€™s faithful companion for the entire game and it is because of Navi that the Z-targeting system exists in the first place. For those needing a memory jog, the Z-targeting system is what made the Zelda franchise€™s leap to 3D so fluid, allowing players to engage in dialogue easily with characters from any direction and, of course, making the game€™s combat fun and user-friendly. Still, the usefulness of this feature isn€™t truly felt until right towards the end of the game. Upon finally reaching the top of Ganon€™s Tower and encountering Ganondorf, Navi is initially weakened by dark magic and unable to help Link Z-target. That means that players have to target him manually, using the N64€™s notoriously clunky joystick. While Navi can easily make an appearance on anybody€™s list of most irritating video game characters, the important role she played in what is widely regarded as the greatest Zelda game ever can€™t be denied. Without the success of Navi and the Z-targeting system, games like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword wouldn€™t even have been possible. With credentials like that, we simply can€™t deny Navi her props.
