Grand Theft Auto: Celebrating 10 Years of GTA Trailers

WhatCulture celebrates the upcoming trailer release for GTA V, by looking back through six of the best trailers from Rockstar's gun-toting, car-stealing franchise.

With the trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 landing at 4pm GMT this afternoon we at WhatCulture have decided to celebrate the last ten years of Grand Theft Auto with a look back through the best trailers for each of the six biggest selling titles from the series, from ground-breaking sandbox GTA III through to the brilliant GTA IV. Basically, the best six games since Rockstar's flagship got out of the car and started walking around. Looking back, it's interesting to note how important a role music has played in each of the major trailers released so far, most notably with GTA III's teaser featuring Maria Callas performing "O Mio Babbino Caro" and causing a jarring contradiction to the ultra-violence depicted in the trailer itself. Whether Rockstar choose to go for something iconic from the modern era - in the vein of Guns N Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" (San Andreas), Cool & The Gang's "Summer Madness" (Vice City) - or a classically composed track (as with III and IV - which featured "Pruit Igoe" by Philip Glass) - it's sure to be a heavy-hitting track that they choose. Anyway, sit back and enjoy the trip through ten years of GTA trailers, before you come back at 4pm and watch the new one...
