We have fond memories of outrunning the cops in GTA IV, tearing down a Liberty City street and crashing into a low, riverside wall, smashing spectacularly out the windshield and into the water below. The police quickly gave up, searching for a man who was already halfway across the midnight water. Imagine the effect of a well-scripted, totally unexpected collision, mid-conversation even. Roadside accidents of any kind can feel way more visceral now that we're in the driver's seat. Every stunt video - and respective fail-montage - is about to go-pro... so to speak. The best we can do on last-gen GTA V is turn-on invincibility, spawn a stunt plane and switch to a near-cockpit view just before crashing into the Atomic Blimp. The breakneck plummet to the Earth is ten times more startling when the view is authentic. After that, try the same thing, but reverse the camera and you'll have a view of whoever you're playing as, sitting calmly in a tumbling, flaming wreck. We're wincing just thinking about BMX and Roadbike wipeouts on Mt. Chilad. Also laughing.
