Usually in the world of video game scripting, actual comedy plays second fiddle to mildly amusing dialogue or absurd situations. Thats fine in and of itself but how many times have you found yourself cringing at a video games attempt at making you laugh as opposed to the intended result? Rockstars GTA franchise fairly neatly dispenses with this rule and stuffs actual comedy, sometimes hilarious comedy, into every aspect of their open world. If its not in the story itself its on the radio, or in the reactions of the citizens, its even in the fictional brand names (the Speedophile? Genius). In the GTA series, its just everywhere. GTA V, while hopefully still promising a classy, immersive gameplay experience ala GTA IV, also promises to deliver more of this signature humour in spades. And as they say, laughter is the best medicine.
