To kick off the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft unveiled the first in-game look at Halo: Infinite. The gameplay demo showed Master Chief (with a new, swanky grappling hook) crash landing on a Halo Ring before heading out to kick ass (and take down some anti-air cannons)

Though the sequel is coming to Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X, the footage looked distinctly next-gen, with lush vistas and seamless integration between cutscenes and action.

It also confirmed the game's new open world elements, with the demo area being a giant space players can freely explore both on foot and in vehicles. The size of the world was only teased, but even this one area is much more expansive than anything seen in the series previously.

The Chief's new grappling hook was shown off as an integral way to explore, but it can also be used in combat, attaching the player to enemies or allowing them to grab objects in the distance.

For better or worse though, it looked very distinctly Halo in terms of sheer shooting and visual style - a return to the simplicity of Halo: Combat Evolved that was hinted at by the similarities between that game's cover and Infinite's.

The trailer ended with a confirmation that the shooter will be launching Holiday 2020.
