Returning after six years, SoulCalibur is aiming to restore its place in gamer culture as a healthy alternative to the likes of Tekken, Dragon Ball and Mortal Kombat.

The thing that hits you right away is the unique control scheme. SC has always operated off having dedicated weapon, kick, dodge and attack buttons - something that when you factor in mandatory side-stepping instead of jumping or ducking, makes for an immediately more tactile game than the button-mashing potential of the competition.

Another brilliant inclusion is The Witcher's Geralt, coming complete with his array of Signs (spells), plus some catlike lunge-stabs and screen-dominating specials. In short it's a resounding return to form, and here's to SoulCalibur getting the love it deserves all over again.
