Hitman: Absolution showcased a fresh trailer at E3 this year. The trailer, called Attack of the Saints, shows the franchise's protagonist, Agent 47, doing what he does best. Killing. 47 kills 8 females dressed as nuns at the start of the trailer. The "saints" throw off their robes to reveal hidden weapons from assault rifles to an RPG. This trailer is receiving a vicious amount of controversy. If not for religious moans for the death of nuns or sexist chants for the murder of women, it's for fetishistic reasoning. This entire situation reminds me of the months prior to Resident Evil 5's release. The controversy there, for those of you who don't know, was claims that the game was racist because all of the enemies in the trailer were black. The game is set in Africa. It makes sense. Just like I didn't ever think of Resident Evil 5 as racist, I highly disagree with the claims here. Check out the trailer for yourselves below;IO's Tore Blystad explained to IGN:
"We're sorry that we offended people that was truly not the intention of the trailer. Of course we understand, this has been a very big topic for us and we've been reading as much as we could of the articles and responses. We were surprised that it turned into such a huge topic. Something similar happened with our Sniper Challenge pre-order bonus... We just wanted to make something cool, it wasn't the intention to stir up anything."
IO was "surprised that it turned into such a huge topic." Do we really think the company has a vendetta against women? Perhaps they just enjoy the centuries old idea of evil, powerful women. I for one enjoyed the trailer and can't wait for the games release.
