Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful Mono-Blue Cards In 2020 Standard

Some of the most powerful cards in arguably the most powerful colour in Magic.

Throughout Magic's history blue is seen as the most powerful part of the colour pie. Traditionally Blue features some of the most powerful, and in some cases overpowered, spells in the history of the game. What place does blue hold in the current standard meta-game? Has blue lost its place as the leader among equals? Or does blue still reign supreme?

Many different kinds of blue spells are played in the current standard. Creatures, which have usually been seen as one of blue's weak points, are currently one of their greatest strengths. That doesn't mean that blue has forsaken it's bread and butter powerful library of instant spells. Newly printed powerhouses and role playing reprints make an appearance in any deck that blue has a presence in.

Blue cards may not be the focal point of every deck that they appear in but those decks would not be near the power levels they are at without those cards. Even if you don't think blue is currently the most powerful colour in Magic there is no denying the power level of these cards.

10. Opt

Some of the most powerful cards in Magic still need other cards to help them reach their potential, Opt is one of those cards. Without the card filtering and card advantage that Opt can give a deck some decks would not work nearly as well as they currently do. Opt has been played in every standard meta that it has been a part of, and now is no different.

For one blue mana you get to scry one, for those not familiar this means you may look at the top card of your library before deciding to either keep it there or put it on the bottom of your library, and then draw a card. A simple card on the surface but there are few better at enabling some current standard strategies. In Phoenix decks opt counts as one of the three spells needed to reanimate the namesake Arclight Phoenix and will help you find more spells to do the same.

In any other deck that features blue Opt is an excellent play early game if you're digging for more mana or a key removal spell. Late game Opt can help you find that creature or spell that will help bring you the victory.
