Whether you're a veteran player or just starting out, Planeswalkers can be some of the most interesting and fun cards to play. What's not to love? They add an enjoyable element to the game and more things to do on your turn than to just play spells and declare attacks. But with so many of them from years past, it can be difficult to decipher what's powerful and what people are overestimating.
All of these cards are playable in at least one format, though like everything, you should always check to see what the rules of your preferred format is as some cards might be banned and many won't be allowed in the standard format.

10. Karn Liberated
Karn Liberated is an amazing Planeswalker, if a little expensive. A +4 ability on a Planeswalker is practically unheard of and forcing your opponent to not only discard but exile a hard from their hand isn’t something to scoff at.
His -3 ability is great, especially as the exile tag ignores creatures with indestructible, and it can even target land to ruin your opponent’s mana curve. His -14 ultimate ability is one of the best in the entire game, as, if done right, it essentially assures a victory even in games with more than two players.
However, as a 7-cost card with only 6 loyalty counters, and with its only defensive ability removing 3 loyalty counters, this Planeswalker is incredibly slow to get set up. Even if you rush Karn’s ultimate and keep it alive with removal spells, you need to exile at least one card with him to be viable, and two or three if you want to guarantee a victory.
Despite being incredibly strong, his slow tempo suffers to faster decks. He gets on this list, but only just.
