Sony's PlayStation Meeting event may have been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of expectation versus reality (where the hell were Rockstar?!), but thankfully it did deliver with a tantalising look at Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Thanks to a loyal fanbase sticking by the property over the years (ending of Mass Effect 3 be damned) there have been a number of leaks, rumours and general tidbits of info since the initial 2015 announcement, and it's great to see some of these finally confirmed.

For example, we now know your playable character will be called 'Ryder', rather than Shepard, and at least a sizeable chunk of the game takes place in the 'Helios Cluster', as the characters can be heard talking about it. Both things came from a leak way back in April 2015, which now appears to have provided quite the blueprint for the final release.

Now, what was shown looked to only be a tiny chunk of a full mission, and honestly, it was more intended to show off the PS4 Pro's fancy new lighting capabilities than anything else - but that's not why we're here, oh no.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, give Mass Effect fans some gameplay footage, and they'll devour it for months...

9. N7 Is No More

Blink and you'd miss it, but the new footage confirmed yet another detail in relation to the original trilogy - the Systems Alliance N7 designation has been left behind, along with everyone/thing else in the Milky Way.

Whilst we don't know if the popular theory about the Council licensing a mission during the Reaper invasion to explore other worlds/galaxies is true, it certainly seems that way, as if you look closely, Ryder and his companions are sporting a logo with the letters 'AI', most likely the 'Andromeda Initiative'.

I'll get to dissecting what little dialogue we have in a couple points' time, but this is all very promising as it's clear Bioware have found a way to subtly connect to the established canon, whilst crafting a meta--narrative about exploring an entire new galaxy alongside the player.
