Mass Effect Andromeda New Trailer Breakdown: 14 Things You Need To See
It's about time you met the new squad.
Mass Effect Andromeda is drawing ever closer, with its March 21st release date feeling right around the corner – close, and yet so far. But recently we were treated to not one, but two new trailers, each showcasing specific events and characters, and giving players a bit more insight into the stakes that will overshadow the next instalment in the franchise.
Even though the new game takes place 600 years after the events of the original trilogy, the Andromeda mission actually begins during the same time in which Mass Effect 2 took place.
This way, the team have be able to separate the new setting from the events - and conclusions - of the third game, for better and for worse.
Indeed, the anticipation continues to build. The plot has a more Star Trek feel to it, there's a great blend of the old and new, and of course, Andromeda will only expand upon the lore and history of the franchise overall.
So, to build up that anticipation even further, here's everything you need to know from both new trailers.
14. "20,000 Souls Adrift At Sea"
The stakes of Mass Effect Andromeda have been pretty unclear up until this point.
We know that the Pathfinder is designated with the job of finding a suitable planet to call New Earth. But while the original trilogy was shadowed by the imminent threat of the Reapers, Mass Effect Andromeda set itself up as a sci-fi exploration title, without a pressure point that creates its drama. In this latest trailer, we get a clearer idea of the stakes you are up against.
Not only is there a new adversary to fight (more on them later), but going off Alec Ryder’s narration, the Pathfinders are against the clock.
“We’re marooned. 20,000 souls adrift at sea. And when the power runs out – stays out – we need to know if that’s safe harbour” - Alec Ryder
With 20,000 people populating Ark Hyperion, and nowhere else to go, they are fish in a barrel for anyone who looks to cause harm. And considering the new threat in this galaxy, we can start to get an idea of where the stakes will play into the core narrative.
