5. Liara T'soni

Dr T'soni is another favourite with fans of the series.  It's also theorised that she is the canonical romance partner for the Commander, to the delight of Asari fans everywhere.

Tracking Liara's character development is one of the most interesting threads to follow through the trilogy, as she progresses from innocent Prothean researcher with no combat experience to a battle-hardened soldier that takes no prisoners - and conquering the invincible Shadow Broker on the way.

Her fight with the Broker is certainly memorable, but unfortunately it's DLC, so not everyone will have experienced it. She's got plenty of awesome moments in the base games though, such as her tussle with her mother Benezia in ME1, and her desperation to protect her homeworld in ME3.

She's also a tremendously powerful Biotic - so Liara will remain at the forefront of Mass Effect lore for years to come.
