As 2020 winds down and we look to the future of various entertainment fields, the long-rumoured Metal Gear Solid movie just got an injection of adrenaline as none-other than Oscar Isaac has signed on to be Solid Snake.

Coming from Deadline, it's noted that full production is yet to start for various obvious reasons, but the movie is finally going ahead in a more official capacity after years of Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts trying to get it off the ground.

Vogt-Roberts will indeed direct the picture, with Detective Pikachu and Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly penning the script. It's worth noting this script has gone through many iterations, with Vogt-Roberts reportedly putting it together alongside Connolly and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, resulting in versions that have been called the "weirdest, most Kojima thing" possible.

Lastly and most interestingly, it seems this movie will be directly based on the Metal Gear Solid game for the original PlayStation. Not only does that line up with the all-but-confirmed remake of said game coming in 2021 (check the above video), but mention of "Foxhound" as the enemy force in Deadline's writeup narrows that scope considerably.

Right now it's all to play for and I couldn't be more excited!
