Metal Gear Solid Remake: 10 Things That Must Remain Untouched

By Sam Coleman /

10. The Script

When a game features an intelligent and moving storyline, there's bound to be some great lines. Every character has some memorable quirk which is often reflected in their dialogue too. Snake, for example, is inspired by the classic action heroes of the 80s and he's got some pretty quick wit to fit in; "Video game players, huh?" he states mockingly when the Colonel explains that the Genome soldiers have no real combat experience. In fact, the game is full of little nods to the player, especially during the Psycho Mantis fight. It's not just Snake that brings the great lines though; Gray Fox is another source of terrific speeches and moments. "That's it Snake, hurt me more. Make me feel alive again," he yells during his boss fight, showing the deep trauma within the character. There's discussions on love, war, politics, films, orphan life... This is a game that isn't afraid to delve into its characters' pasts and bring them to the fore, bringing the game's story to life through some terrific dialogue. It's unlikely that a remake would make tremendous changes to the script but preserving it and keeping it as close to the original game as possible is an easy way to bring out the nostalgia in fans.
