Metal Gear Solid Remake: 10 Things That Must Remain Untouched

By Sam Coleman /

3. The Torture Scene

Way before Grand Theft Auto V brought the gaming world to a standstill with it's own brutal scene, Metal Gear Solid featured Snake undergoing torture from Revolver Ocelot and, to be frank, it was awesome. Having been captured by FOXHOUND, Snake is placed in the torture device while Ocelot interrogates him to learn the secret behind the President's card key. The stakes are raised though; if Snake submits to the torture, Ocelot promises to torture and kill Meryl. This makes Metal Gear Solid the only game in the series with two endings; a Meryl ending (where you outlast the torture and she lives) and an Ocelot ending (where she dies and Ocelot takes her place during the final scenes). So obviously, you want to save the world and get the girl, right? Get ready for some intense button bashing sessions. Seriously, you need to hammer the circle button to keep Snake alive here and it gets remarkably tiring - who said sitting around and playing video games was easy? Still, the reward for surviving the torture makes it all worth while; not only do you keep everyone alive (and reach the canonical ending to the game) but you'll also be rewarded with the bandana which gives Solid Snake infinite ammo on repeat playthroughs. Keeping this scene tense and challenging is a must for any remake.
